Best of the Moon: Best Tracks of the Month – Chapter Eight
Welcome to the Moon!
August is finished we are afraid to say. But not the great music, that’s for sure. We can feel that this Summer is going towards its closure, the melancholy is stronger, and so is the main theme of the tracks proposed today.
We do feel that all the artists we are going to show today have created some incredibly catchy tunes, still ideal for the summer vibe. Anyway, you can hear on these that feeling that everything is not forever, and we should stop a second and appreciate these last moments of holiday we are having.
We hope that your vacations have been exceptional and that these artists’ soundtracks are going to help you start again the everyday hustle and bustle we experience most of the year. they definitely made our dream and wish this summer was never over. Anyway, let’s get back on track, and let’s take a look at this month’s best artist list.
Let the journey to the moon begin.
OZZ GOLD – “When I’m With You”
OZZ GOLD is back to delight us with his sound once again here on SpaceSour, when summer looks like is ready to vanish but Ozz Gold comes in the right moment to bring it back and hold it for a bit longer. His latest single “When I’m With You” is exactly what we need to open the dancefloor: a dance tune that features beautiful and dreamy vocals, with a hint of nostalgic feelings but that will set you in a good and happy mood even after the song is over.
The sound design is minimal; melodic arpeggio plucks and warm ambient synths give a dreamy atmosphere to the verses, with a relaxed vibe the song builds up perfectly leading to a spectacular drop playing remarkable melodies in a full summer-ish style.
The bouncy basses add an outstanding groove to the drop, making it even more enjoyable, followed by punchy drums that reach your chest in a proper manner.
This is another masterpiece from this artist, loop mode activated!
HANNAH DORMAN – “222”
Pop-Rock is not dead and we also need to thank artists like Hannah Dorman for this, an English singer-songwriter from Surrey who just released her first EP called “222″.
Many famous artists are now getting back to the punk rock sound, but many new artists are putting their twist on this genre and Hannah Dorman is one of those. On her EP she merges nuances of pop rock, 80s synthpop and electro-pop in a seamless way. Her song “No Boys Allowed” even touches some industrial rock vibes that we really dig.
The song we are going to present to you today from the EP is “Gasoline”, which is the first track from the release and the one that got stuck in our minds the most. The tune has some great electric guitars that reminisce the latest Machine Gun Kelly’s two albums.
An energetic vocal performance adds that pop-rock vibe that blinks at Olivia Rodrigo’s style but with that edgy twist that we loved. Plus that anthemic chorus is gonna get stuck in your head for a long time, if you miss Avril Lavigne’s 2000s vocal lines, that’s your jam.
THE DOMAIN – “Favorite Mistake”
Thrilled to bring here some groovy retro vibes with the sound of THE DOMAIN, an incredible artist with just 2 singles released but with loads of experience from his studies and his previous projects. His latest release called “Favorite Mistake” is a dance tune in collaboration with the New York-based singer LOUSY that definitely brings an outstanding touch to the song.
This release is not just a classic dance tune: Favorite Mistake carries a nostalgic mood with its 80s sound design and its great chord progressions, but also an enjoyable happy vibe with a solid groove and remarkable vocal lines. This duo works incredibly well in this track, where the energy of the instrumental is able to host in a perfect manner the vocal range of the singer, making the song extremely pleasant to listen to.
This is for sure one of these songs that you don’t really want to miss: solid groove, clever lyrics, excellent dynamic, just hit the favorite button, what are you waiting for?!
AUDREAL GILLETT – “Memories”
The next artist we are going to present is called Audreal Gillet, she’d a singer-songwriter and producer based in Portland. Her last single is called Memories, and touches on themes we always have been fond of.
Probably the majority of us met a person we became really attached to at the wrong moment of their life. We frequently imagine how it would have been if we met that special person in another moment of our lives, and the soundscape created by Audreal Gillett makes us dive into memory lane.
Audreal’s vocals here are very dreamy, with a particular use of delays and reverbs that create that ethereal feeling, hard to catch, a bit like memories indeed. She experiments with different synths along the way adding a house and EDM flavor that fits perfectly in the track. That’s a very peculiar Indie-pop tune from a fresh artist you shouldn’t miss.
COVINOS – “Got The Funk”
The next track on this list really GOT THE FUNK. This bouncy tune was recently released by producer and composer Covinos, an incredibly talented and young artist based in Boston.
The name of the song is indeed Got The Funk, an incredibly entertaining and danceable tune, that would sound great both on a happy hour sunset DJ set along the beach and on a club night in a busy London venue.
Covinos, is able to merge flawlessly different music genres from house to funk and techno. The sound design and synth selection slightly reminded us of some of the tunes out of the last two Calvin Harris’ albums, also these ones dedicated to funk music.
The clever experimentations on this track instead, made us dive back into some Daft Punk early releases, the wackiest ones. That’s an eclectic Funky Techno tune you shouldn’t miss.
JEWELIA – “No Lover”
JEWELIA is the pop-star sensation that will breathe life into your playlist. This incredible singer and songwriter from London, UK, has been releasing music since 2014 with a music catalog of over 20 tracks recorded during these years.
Her latest release “No Lover” definitely brings up a nostalgic mood in a unique way, featuring groovy retro drum patterns with melodic elements and funky rhythmic guitars.
The vocals have an outstanding production here, with special care on the choirs and back vocals; we honestly loved the energy of the chorus where they literally show their best.
The production has impressive attention to detail, from the short fx sounds to the clean groove of the drums and percussion, the song is curated in every aspect with a perfectionist attitude. Definitely a remarkable tune from Jewelia, the kind of tune that your brain will play when you are on your daily tasks, especially when you less expect it!
TAYLOR ROCHE – “Day&night”
Space Travellers, the next one is thrilling, and we are not joking. We want to introduce TAYLOR ROCHE in this best of the moon, but with a serious warning: his music is extremely addictive. His sound has a fresh modern pop vibe mixed with strong retro 80s vibes that bring back nostalgic feelings, and we are not ashamed to tell you that we literally ended up making a playlist just with his music, listening to it non-stop for days.
Taylor is a singer and songwriter from Auckland, New Zealand, and so far he didn’t miss even one, all of his tracks are bangers.
His latest release “Day&night” is an upbeat 80s synthpop production that features groovy basslines, delightful synths, and powerful drums, all garnished with a sick and neat sound design.
Taylor’s voice definitely gives the song a unique touch, with an extremely peculiar timbre and a brilliant dynamic. The production of the vocals is impressive here: distortions, back vocals, vocal chops, and vocalizes definitely add richness to the track and make it exciting to listen to.
We could talk about this for hours, but let’s do ourselves a favor, just press play here:
Sounds In Projects – “Look Pretty”
This next production is from a German DJ and producer called Steve Breuer, we were really struck by the sound design of this one, which made us dive into an incredible production that merges different electronic genres from Progressive House to Techno and Electronic Dance Music.
Steve Breuer is indeed the mastermind behind the music project Sounds in Projects which just delivered this incredible tune called “Look Pretty”. The beautiful melody makes this tune perfect for a summer radio playlist and even great for a club night thanks to its Tech Mix version.
The “Tech Mix” keep the melodic charge “Look Pretty” but adds some steroids to the instrumentation, especially to the kick and bass which pump everything up into an incredibly danceable track that would sound amazingly during Music Festivals like Ultra or even Tomorrowland. An incredibly tasty House release, you should not miss.
MEADOWHIP – ”Am I Broken”
It’s time to chill a little bit with this next artist we are going to present to you. She’s an Australian-based singer-songwriter called Cara Walkam, and her music project is called meadowhip. She recently release her single “Am I Broken”, a song whose theme might represent you as well.
We personally found ourselves at different times wondering if we were the real problem inside an intimate relationship. This song represents the internal dialogue Cara is having, wondering if she’s the real problem, and sometimes taking the blame for the things that didn’t work out.
The vocal style add that soul melancholic vibe we really loved, matching perfectly the theme. The instrumentation adds a groovy and funky bassline and an effective guitar along the way that adds that depth and brightness that the other instruments express in another part of the mix.
We loved the addition of the trumpets during and at the end of the tune, creating almost a dramatic moment and a great escalation that uplifts the song and also our mood.
ANNA BELLE – “Dreams (Late At Night)”
With this next artist, we are going to take a time machine and go back to the 80s. She’s called Anna Belle, and she just released a song called Dreams (Late at Night). That’s her first single in 2022 after the EP released in 2021 called “Barely functional.”.
She kept her music genre incredibly consistent throughout every release proposing 80s Synthpop tracks, that really seem they come from that era. Everything from the production to the sound design is curated to the minimum detail, even the vocal style reminisces those peculiar performances from 80s female singers.
That’s something you wouldn’t expect from an artist from Nashville. Country and Americana were not an option for her style, and we are glad to hear some vintage-sounding synths and reverbs finally. What’s even more surprising is that Anna produced everything by herself. An outstanding release from an artist you should absolutely take a look at.
KING KISMET – “Call Me”
KING KISMET is back with another incredible single, and this is a real banger. After being with us in Chapter 2 (article here), it didn’t take a lot to find out that this incredible artist has gained the likes of the public with his unique sound, and we are glad to have him here once again.
His latest release “Call Me” is a pop/future bass song that definitely proves how skilled this artist is: a powerful sound that features melodic guitars, sharp synths, deep basses, and some incredible vocals.
The track sets you in a melancholic mood from the beginning, but also give you some hopeful feelings when the vocals join the verse: here we’ll be guided by the groove of the drums, and amazed by the production of the vocal lines, with incredible vocoders/vocal chops. This tune gets extremely remarkable thanks to this elaborated sound, and honestly, we never heard anything like this out there, making this song a great surprise and a sick discovery. We’ll loop it for a while, that’s for sure!
