Welcome to the Moon!
For most people, January is the day to start the year with the right foot. For others is the month to start saving up some money after all the presents that have been done, and doing really nothing at all in general.
We in Space Sour belong to the first category, and so do the artists that we are featuring for this fresh edition of Best of The Moon, named CHAPTER ONE.
So, let’s dive together into this plethora of incredible musicians and genres, and let’s wrap up this crazy first the month of 2022.
LET THE TRIP TO THE MOON BEGIN:
HOLLY JADE – “FADED BLUE”
Time of some chill and melancholic vibes with the latest release of HOLLY JADE!
Incredible singer and songwriter, Holly started playing the guitar when she was just 7 years old. Born in Western Australia and moved to Los Angeles in 2019 where she started making music.
The last single came out a couple of weeks ago called Faded Blue: this is an r&b/pop style production that features immersive lyrics and chill vibes.
Holly’s vocals bring to life a melancholic beat with her incredible mood and her perfect timbre. Amazing production here, for sure deserved a spot in this month’s list!
HANNYTA – “MAKE IT TO THE NIGHT”
Probably the youngest on the list, we present you a 17 years old singer and songwriter: HANNYTA.
Born in Hungary and based in Scotland, Hannyta has released several singles from 2020, and her latest release Make It To the Night came out just a week ago.
This is a chill future bass track that you can’t miss: Confident and heavenly vocal lines, clear synths and melodic elements make this track very pleasant to listen to.
This year reserve something special for this artist, for sure! Make sure you follow and hear out for her next releases!
JOHN NORTH – “HIDE”
JOHN NORTH is another incredible producer born in Columbia but grew up in Norway. From here, his name, John North, the great north and the place where he takes inspiration for his music.
John has an incredible style, a sound that remember the one of Don Diablo, with a boost of retro bass sounds and catchy vocal lines.
After getting thousands of streams on his previous tracks, he’s back now with his latest tune: Hide, a real solid production made in collaboration with his vocalist and pianist Thomas Nordvik. Incredible work here, you’ll get into loop mode!
FLASHBACK ONE – “BROKEN”
Welcoming an amazing electronic producer from Germany, now based in a small town in Switzerland: FLASHBACK ONE.
Developing a passion for music since he was a kid, he started as a guitarist, moving later on to the DJ side and starting making his own music as a producer.
He’s now crafting his own sound in a future bass/pop style, and we can hear his first creation in this genre with his latest release: Broken. Featuring stylish synths and emotional melodies, this is the right production to enjoy at any time of the day. Don’t miss out!
AL22 – “DESERVE TO BE LOVED”
This is an artist that knows how to open a dancefloor: welcoming in this list AL22! An amazing artist, singer/songwriter, and producer from London, with a deep house sound-inspired and pop notes.
His debut single for this year is called Deserve To Be Loved just came out a couple of days ago: a groovy and melodic beat accompanying the incredible voice of Alex, featuring deep meaning lyrics and remarkable vocal lines.
The tune is solid, energic, neat, and we know for sure it will get stuck in your head for a while! Don’t miss out on this banger, waiting for more releases in the meanwhile!
GEMINI CHRIS – “ANIMAL”
We welcome in our best picks Gemini Chris, an experienced DJ and Music Producer based in London, UK.
His latest release and the first of this year is called Animal, an EDM track that features some groovy bass synths along with a punchy beat, and some incredible vocals that give the track the right mood.
This is a party/dance tune that would fit many occasions, a solid track that will definitely give you an incredible boost of energy on the dancefloor! Shout out to Chris for such a banger tune!
MY TWISTED HEART – “HEARTBREAKER”
My Twisted Heart is the incredible project of very young talent from Honk Kong: Po Ki Ching.
The musical genre of this project is a mix of Hyper-pop, Synth-pop, and Electro-pop; releasing various tracks during the past years, we want to share with you this impressive track released a few weeks ago: Heartbreaker.
This tune will get you on a rollercoaster of emotions with its emotional melodies, sharp and deep synths, high pitched vocals: all of this will hit you right in the middle of your head and will get stuck in there for a while. Careful, extremely addictive sound!
JAZ KUTASSY – “MISSED OPPORTUNITY”
Time for some Indie Pop in full style with the stunning voice of JAZ KUTASSY!
Jaz is a singer and songwriter from London with an incredible timbre and genuinely curated lyrics. She released 2 singles last year and the one single a couple of days ago called Missed Opportunity, making it the first release of 2022!
The song features a groovy beat, with funky guitars, deep basses, and other melodic and very interesting elements. The tune is solid, emotional, and confident, Jaz’s vocals are enchanting and unique. A must listen, waiting for more releases from this incredible artist!
PARIZ – “SOMEONE TO FORGET”
Welcoming another incredible lad based in Texas, USA.
This is PARIZ, a young producer that makes electronic, dance, and EDM music.
After releasing several tracks in the past year, Pariz started the new year with a brand new banging future bass track called Someone To Forget.
The track has a melancholic and mystic vibe that features punchy drums, electric leads, and sharpened synths, all along with heavenly and melodic vocals. Don’t miss out on this one!
MERSI – “WHAT’S GOING ON”
Mersi, aka Marcel Markus has a great experience and curriculum in the music industry, with multiple projects on his shoulder. So he definitely has amazing stuff to pull out and show to new generations of producers. His last track “What’s Going On”, is a cheerful EDM track that blinks to the electro-swing genre with a very cool piano and trumpet riff in the middle of the tune.
The song is a reflection on what and how things are happening around us. “What always seemed to be unchangeable has suddenly turned upside down. One can’t help but wonder how life and the world around us are changing, and can’t help but sigh “What the hell is going on?” As the artist himself states.
Certainly, the song gives the idea of the concept, while making you move and dance to his influential rhythm.
HIGHASAKITE – “MOTHER”
Norwegian pop sensation Highasakite’s, have just released their newest album on the 28th of January, and Mother is their latest single. Vocals and arrangement are incredibly well produced, with a futuristic sound design that gives even more spice to the catchy melody.
While listening to this outstanding tune, it comes as no surprise that this dynamic duo has accumulated over 200 million streams on Spotify to date and earned multiple Norwegian Grammy Awards (Spellemannprisen).
We wish the best to Håvik and drummer Trond Bersu with their fifth album, which we are definitely going to binge-listen.
EVIN – “FEARS OF LETTING GO”
London-based new artist EVIN just release his first single “Fears of Letting Go” off of his debut EP “Good Morning World”. This 80s inspired tune is sexy and romantic at the same time, and it is impossible not to be carried away by his incredible well-written storytelling.
The tune starts with an incredible trumpet lick that instantly gets stuck in your mind and drags you into a cinematic scenario that reminisces all the best scenes of the most influential 80s movies.
Definitely a great song to start the January, with a chorus and intro that will stay in our hands for a long time.
NUZU – “PIPES”
Pushing rap over his boundaries, NUZU steps into the electronic realm, with the right cockiness, making us heavily headbanging with their jungle-infused track “PIPES”.
NUZU is formed by Kayes Mensah and Teige along with Producer/videographer Jack Wyer. The trio formed in 2019 and has been relentlessly working on music and visual art behind the scenes. With “PIPES” this incredible trio merged the worlds of Grime and Drum and Bass in the most powerful and rightfully fierce way possible.
Depicting their reality and London, their hometown, with a gritty pen, which reminds us of the more rough tunes by Prodigy. NUZU tracks, are the best sound you could hear during a rave, and we hope that that’s just the start of an incredible 2022 for them.
FAR WEST – “IT FEELS NEW”
Far West is a synth-pop project started by Ryan Settles in 2019, and just started the new year with the right foot releasing a positive and catchy tune called “It Feels New”.
The song is everything you would like to hear in a synth-pop tune, it has catchy melodies, great vintage synths, and an incredible Trumpets solo which you will listen to again and again.
Saying that Far West and especially this tune is just Synth-Pop, might not be enough tho, and won’t make them justice, have they undoubtedly put more on the table crafting a sound design that is their own and blinks to the indie rock genre. We can’t wait to hear more from Far West and Ryan this year.
JULIANDER – “IF I CAN’T HAVE YOU”
Juliander, is a singer-songwriter and producer from Sweden, Stockholm and just some days ago he released his single “If I Can’t Have You”. An impressive Indie-Pop single that shows Juliander’s incredible talent.
Producing and writing all his songs by himself, Juliander is able to deliver a unique and vibrant sound. It comes as no surprise that he had the chance to share the stage with famous acts like Zara Larsson and Alan Walker, and even perform at Coachella.
“If I Can’t Have You” is an electro-pop tune that shares a positive and stoic message: rather be alone if you are not able to be with the special person in your life. We second that and will keep this tune at high volume, so we won’t forget this message and melody for the rest of 2022.
MARIA RODHE – “CALLING FOR YOU”
Maria Rodhe‘s new single is called “Calling for You” and it’s her second release in six months.
Maria Rodhe comes from Sweden, a country overly famous for its incredible music production, from Max Martin to ABBA, and this tune doesn’t lack catchiness at all. Calling For You, will make you forget this cold winter, as its sound drags you far away in a warm place with nice weather, palms and tiki cocktails.
The Caribbean-inspired beat makes you dance like no one is watching and Maria’s vocals are incredibly charming. Definitely a great start of the year for Maria, which made us already ready for a bright summer.
LOW GIRL – “SO COOL”
Low Girl is a talented new band that already knows how to make bangers. “So Cool”, is their newest single and they easily proved that they how to write melodies that get stuck in your mind.
The producer behind their upcoming EP is Michale Smith, who already worked with the very famous UK band Wolf Alice, and with Low Girl he created a very peculiar sound that it’s already their own.
This band is receiving loads of love from Spotify, UK Radios, and us as well. 2022 is definitely going to be very interesting thanks to them.
NIGHTINGALE – “VERMILLION”
Melbourne-based producer/artist Nightingale brought us a new tune for this 2022 called Vermillion, and we are already fixated with it. The track is inspired by Australian summer, and while it is winter here in the UK, Nightingale has created a joyful electronic tune that definitely reflects the mood and joy that people are living in the other part of the hemisphere.
As Nightingale states himself “I wanted to capture the buzz I had coming into summer after the year we had here in Melbourne. It was akin to the excitement of coming up to any big event in your life and wanting that time to be precious, joyful, and forever lasting.”
We personally loved the positive and catchy vocals which bring a smooth melody that sets the right mindset to chill near a beach during a great sunset.
Nightingale’s way of producing songs is incredible, and we hope 2022 will be full of more songs by him.
CHRIS KABS – “MOON”
Chris Kabs, started his career back in 2016 and definitely has a lot more to say in this busy 2022, starting with his new tune “Moon”.
“Moon” is a catchy tune, released with a Synthwave inspired music video. As you know by the title of this article, we are really into the Moon, so this song is the perfect fit. The production blends multiple genres, from trap to RnB all wrapped up with Synthwave sound design, which reminisces both productions from Drake and Labyrinth.
The bass synth and subs on this one really shake you from the inside, and even though the tune immerse in a melancholic vibe, it makes you easily dance with your hands to the sky while singing along the chorus.
JORDAN JONES – “BREAK MY HEART”
It is really hard to not be moved by Jordan Jones first single called “Break My Heart”, especially after knowing Jordan’s story.
Just before getting married to his fianceè, Jordan discovers her affair, making him go into a downward spiral tainted by depression and addiction.
We are incredibly happy Jordan found his way out thanks to music as we think this tune might inspire many. Even if the story behind the tune might be hard this is an incredibly positive and uplifting tune, with a great vocal performance, technically flawless, which made us eager for more Jordan Jones’ music. WE WANT MORE.
KIRIKU, YALISAXX – “04.40”
Kiriku and Yalisaxx teamed up on their new single called “04.40”, delivering a techno minimal house tune, that will make you move your bum before you even notice.
The saxophone which enters in the middle of the song gives a whole new life to the tune, like changing the day to the night. You won’t stop dancing at all, you will now move more mindfully with your lady and enjoy the buzz of that Martini you had together.
This is definitely a sensual song, with some electro-swing sprinkles that will re-ignite your nights making it more charming and sexy.
WOLFMAN LONGARM – “12-26 Bend Not Break“
This next one is a unique and vibrant project that had to be included in our picks this month; welcoming WOLFMAN LONGARM with his latest EP called WLF. This is a collection of 4 masterpieces that will bring you on an outer space journey.
Wolfman combines different genres to make his own one, a mix of hip-hop, hyper-pop, with punk sensibility and electronic elements. Unpredictable lyrics and incredible productions makes his music something that you must hear out. Our favorite? 12-26 Bend Not Break. Check it out!
ALESSANDRA BOLDRINI – “WHAT YOU WANTED”
Sharing some incredible Italian skills in this month’s picks, born in Italy and based in London, we present you ALESSANDRA BOLDRINI with her latest track What You Wanted: a spicy groovy track afrobeat style with melodic elements and catchy pop vocals.
Alessandra has gained thousands of streams on Spotify; this latest release shows the hard work and the experience she has gained over the past years, also with a degree at BIMM Institute in London, we can now enjoy an incredible high-quality production and some stunning vocals that we won’t easily forget.
