Space Discovery: Keith Aaron
Welcome to our new Space Discovery!
Lay back, relax and enjoy as today we present an exciting blast from the past – though it came out just in May this year. Keith Aaron’s When She’s Dancing is a romantically seductive alternative R&B ballad with an 80s feel to it and a tuneful beat that you’ll be tempted to play at least once a day.
Keith Dela Providencia, aka Keith Aaron, is a singer, songwriter and producer from Christchurch, New Zealand, now based in Melbourne. His sound is undoubtedly influenced by artists like Frank Ocean, and it reminded me a bit of The Weeknd. Keith’s charming vocals slide over the smooth beat, filled with 80s drone chords and harmonies that brought back to memory my parents’ wedding film. So&So’s rap verse, then, breaks in without dispelling the magic effect of the whole, with its contemplative quality and soft sound.
Both Keith’s and So&So’s heartfelt lyrics over this old-fashioned and yet refreshing beat make When She’s Dancing stand out and apart from some of those sexy R&B songs we’re used to, and yet it exudes a unique sensuality through the non-said and innuendo, with its enveloping sound and strongly memorable lyrics. This track is all about your body going weak when you see the person you like dance to the beat, it tries to communicate all those fiery emotions rushing through you, and yet it conveys the message in such a laid-back way it’s impossible not to feel those exact sensations of both flaring passion and sweet stupor at the same time.
When She’s Dancing is our new favourite ballad and Keith Aaron is a promising figure in the alternative R&B scene, and we can’t wait to hear more of his captivating music and retro sounds in conversation with both the past and the future.
