Space Discovery: Mat Vanstone
Welcome to our new Space Discovery!
This is not one to sit down and chill to, as Mat Vanstone’s Fiji will have you jump up to its sprung rhythm. This tech-house track has hit number one in the Beatport Hype Charts in the first week after its release, and we’re not surprised. Vanstone, Canadian DJ and producer from Vancouver, combined his passion for hip-hop and tech-house in this composition of groovy percussions and vigorously delivered rap bars, which he worked on with his friend LNDN.
This track has a great punch, with an incisive, rattling beat full of strong transients, wobbly transitions and noise sweeps which make this song truly dynamic. Rising and descending synths accompany the hooky vocals, creating great tension with climaxes and anti-climaxes perfectly reached. Ears and body will inevitably follow the inexorable rhythm and flow of this entire track, which takes you on a ride of sounds and movements.
The whole composition is energetic and never dull, you can’t press play and stop it any time before it ends. It will catch your ear even if you’re browsing through playlists for something chill, and you will certainly love it if tech-house hard-hitting beats and catchy vocals are what you’re looking for. It’s almost impossible, in fact, not to sing along to the chorus too, which make this track even more of a boost than what it already is. The galvanising melody in harmony with the heavy bass show how the different elements in this track cooperate to achieve a feeling of inescapable excitement.
This beat is a successful experiment by Mat Vanstone, who’s been in the scene for two decades now, headlining festivals like Cloud 9 and Candyland, and still doesn’t stop surprising with a refreshing track to get everyone dancing. But that’s enough talking now, go listen to “Fiji”!
