Space Discovery: Willdabeast
Welcome to our new Space Discovery!
When I heard the first track on this EP, I was electrified – Willdabeast is one of the greatest hybrid bass electronic duo I came across recently. From Bellingham, Washington, this group made by Will Glazier and Dan de Lisle has been named one of the “Top 10 EDM Horn Sections” by TheUntz.com and has become a dominant figure in the electronic scene of Cascadia and not only.
Their latest EP, Superhighway Afterglow, is just different from anything I’ve listened to before. On top of that, I’m very much into titles when it comes to music, and this one here so adequately represents the sensation this album leaves you with – that feeling of driving down the highway when the sun has just gone down, with the ecstatic calm of that moment filled by the buzzing residues of energy from the big road and the day that’s just passed.
This EP manages to be extraordinarily dynamic through the combination of electronic production with brass instruments, which make it sound very much spontaneous and high-spirited.
The album opens with warm, uplifting horns pulling you in, a self-affirmation and an effervescent acid bass, all too irresistible for you to stop listening there. Then it moves onto more of an experimental funky sound, and then spreads across various genres, blurring lines and bending boundaries, with dubstep drops, jazzy horns and an electronic bass that make it all exceptionally groovy.
This mid-tempo, hybrid EDM could just be for everyone, with its horn-infused positivity raising the vibe a notch higher, and its soaring sounds guiding your sensations in all different directions, adapting to your ear to then surprise you again and again. Willdabeast’s unique and rich style will make you release all the grey energy and also make you want to go for a ride, preferably afterglow.
